8 Inch Gold Anodized Flagpole Ball Ornament

Will this size fit my flagpole?

Match the ball to the BUTT DIAMETER of your pole, not its height. The butt diameter is the width of the pole at the bottom, where it comes out of the ground or the shoe. The accepted rule across the flagpole trade is that the ball diameter should equal the butt diameter, and this 8 inch ball is sized for an 8 inch butt diameter — common on 35 to 50 foot commercial and institutional poles.

If you are not sure, measure across the base of the pole with a tape or a set of calipers. Getting it right matters visually — a ball much smaller than the pole looks like a knob, and one much larger looks top-heavy.

Will it thread onto my pole?

This ornament screws into the flagpole truck, the fitting at the very top of the pole, on 1/2 Inch-13NC threading. Across the industry, 2 through 8 inch balls use 1/2 Inch-13NC and 10 and 12 inch balls use 5/8 Inch-11NC, so if you are replacing a ball of the same diameter the thread will almost always match. Unscrew the old ornament and check the stud before you order if you want to be certain.

If your pole has no truck drilled for an ornament, you will need a pole top adapter as well. The spindle is long enough to take a disc-style solar or LED flagpole light between the truck and the ball if you light your flag at night.

About the gold anodized finish

Gold anodized aluminum is the industry standard finish for outdoor ground-set flagpoles, and it is what most poles ship with from the factory. The color is locked into the metal by the anodizing process rather than sitting on top of it, so it will not chip or peel. If you are replacing a ball that came with your pole, this is almost certainly the finish you had.

Best for matching an existing gold pole top, or replacing the original ball.
