Standard vs. Deluxe Pulley-and-Eyebolt Assemblies: Threads and Rope Size

Standard and Deluxe pulley-and-eyebolt assemblies differ in more than their names. These two models have different bolt threads, lengths, materials and maximum rope diameters. Start with the requirements of the existing equipment: a larger assembly is not automatically a compatible replacement.

This comparison covers Standard part 340237 and Deluxe part 340236. It concerns the pulley-and-eyebolt assemblies themselves, rather than a complete flagpole truck or a vertical-mount pulley bracket.

When the Standard assembly is the candidate

The Standard pulley-and-eyebolt assembly, part 340237, has a #8-32NC bolt thread and a one-inch threaded portion. Its overall length is 3-1/8 inches, and its listed maximum rope diameter is 3/16 inch.

Consider this model when those specifications match the documented replacement requirement. A familiar shape or a similar finish cannot confirm the thread. Keep the #8-32NC designation in the order record rather than describing it only as a small eyebolt.

What changes with the Deluxe assembly

The Deluxe pulley-and-eyebolt assembly, part 340236, uses 5/16 inch-18NC bolt threading, a 2-3/8-inch thread length and a 4-1/8-inch overall length. Its stainless steel bolt and housing are paired with a nylon pulley. The maximum rope diameter is 5/16 inch.

The longer threaded portion and larger rope limit are concrete differences. They do not establish that Deluxe will fit a mounting arrangement intended for Standard. The two thread designations are different, so treat a change between models as a compatibility question rather than a direct swap.

Check rope diameter before choosing

A documented 1/4-inch rope requirement exceeds the Standard model’s 3/16-inch maximum. It falls below the Deluxe model’s 5/16-inch maximum, but that checks only one field; the mounting thread, lengths and complete equipment requirements still need to match. Likewise, a rope at or below 3/16 inch does not by itself establish that either assembly is suitable.

Use the equipment specification to identify the required rope rather than guessing from a worn line. If rope is also on the order, the halyard buying guide explains how to separate diameter, supplied length and package contents. A pulley’s maximum rope diameter does not tell you how many feet of rope to purchase.

Keep overall length and thread length separate

Overall length describes the listed assembly dimension; thread length describes its threaded portion. Neither figure alone establishes the mounting thickness it can accommodate. The required hardware arrangement and thread engagement need to be checked against the actual equipment instructions.

Both listings include a hex nut, washer and lock washer. That inclusion does not confirm that every part needed for an unidentified installation is supplied. The photographs are useful for recognizing the assemblies, while the written specifications provide the dimensions; do not measure a photograph to infer clearance or fit.

A short checklist for the order

  • Record the existing equipment identification and its required assembly specification.
  • Match the exact bolt thread, overall length and thread length.
  • Check the required rope diameter against the listed maximum.
  • Confirm the specified materials and included hardware.
  • Keep the selected part number and product page with the order.

If a required dimension or mounting detail is missing, ask for clarification using the exact part number before ordering. Choose the assembly that matches the documented requirement; the Standard and Deluxe names alone cannot make that decision.
