Texas State Flags

Throughout its history, Texas has had several different flags representing its various political statuses. Here is a list of the most notable flags that Texas has had:

The Flag of the Republic of Texas (1836-1845): This flag featured a single white star on a blue field, surrounded by a wreath of oak and olive branches. It was the official flag of the Republic of Texas during its nine years of independence from Mexico.

The Flag of the State of Texas (1845-1861): After Texas was annexed by the United States in 1845, it adopted a new flag featuring the state seal centered on a white field. The seal featured a single white star, symbolizing Texas as the "Lone Star State," and a depiction of a lone buffalo to represent the state's frontier heritage.

The Flag of the Confederate States of America (1861-1865): When Texas seceded from the United States and joined the Confederacy during the Civil War, it adopted the flag of the Confederacy, which featured a blue field with a circle of white stars on it.

The Flag of the State of Texas (1865-1879): After the Civil War, Texas adopted a new state flag that featured the state seal centered on a white field. This flag was similar to the state flag that was used before the Civil War, but with a red stripe added to the border.

The Flag of the State of Texas (1879-1933): This flag featured a blue field with a large white star centered in it. The star had five points, one for each of the five nations that had governed Texas: Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, and the Confederate States of America.
