Idaho State Flags
History of the Idaho State Flag
The current design of the Idaho state flag was adopted in 1957. It features the state seal on a field of blue. The seal depicts a miner and a woman representing equality, a man plowing a field with a team of oxen, and a group of trees. The words "State of Idaho" are written above the seal, and the state motto "Esto Perpetua" (which means "Let it be perpetual" in Latin) is written below it. The flag also includes the dates 1890 (the year Idaho became a state) and 1843 (the year the Oregon Territory, which included present-day Idaho, was established).
