Colorado State Flags
History of the Colorado State Flag
The Colorado state flag consists of three equal horizontal bands of blue, white, and red, with a gold circle in the center of the white band. The colors of the flag are said to represent the state's natural beauty, with the blue representing the clear blue skies, the white representing the snow-covered mountains, and the red representing the reddish soil. The gold circle in the center of the flag represents the state's abundant sunshine.
The Colorado state flag was adopted on June 5, 1911. Prior to this, Colorado had a number of different flags, including a flag with a green field and a golden shield with the letters "C" and "S" (for Colorado Springs) on it, and another flag with a red field and a white cross. The current flag was designed by Andrew Carlisle Johnson, a Governor of Colorado.
