Honoring the Memory of John Glenn
President Donald J. Trump issued Proclamation 9588 on April 5, 2017. It directed the United States flag to be flown at half-staff on the day of John Glenn’s interment, until sunset.
The order covered the White House, federal public buildings and grounds, military posts and naval stations, federal naval vessels, and the specified United States facilities abroad.
This event-specific interment directive belongs to Trump’s first term. It is separate from President Obama’s December 2016 response to Glenn’s death.
