Replacing a Kansas Flag: Match Size and Attachment
A replacement Kansas flag should match more than the state design. Before ordering, record the flag's height and length, the material, and the way its heading connects to your halyard or mounting hardware. The standard outdoor nylon range runs from 2 by 3 feet to 12 by 18 feet, but those sizes do not all share the same attachment description.
This guide covers the eight standard outdoor nylon sizes below. Pole-hem, fringe and polyester versions are separate configurations, even when the Kansas artwork and dimensions look familiar.
Measure the flag, not the photograph
Start with a readable label, an earlier order or the installation's written specification. If you need to measure the existing flag, lay it flat without stretching it. Record the height along the heading and the length from heading to fly end. A worn or frayed edge can make a used flag shorter than its original nominal size, so compare your measurements with the label or order rather than rounding blindly.
Write the units as well as the numbers. The largest size here is 12 by 18 feet, not a 12-by-18-inch small flag. Likewise, a close-up product photograph does not tell you whether the flag is 3 by 5 or 5 by 8 feet.
Keep the complete size with the item number
The manufacturer catalog identifies these eight Kansas nylon configurations. The manufacturer numbers below are useful cross-checks, not substitutes for reading the current FORTISVEX listing.
| Size in feet | Manufacturer item |
|---|---|
| 2 × 3 | 020560 |
| 3 × 5 | 020562 |
| 4 × 6 | 020564 |
| 5 × 8 | 020566 |
| 6 × 10 | 020568 |
| 8 × 12 | 020569 |
| 10 × 15 | 022128 |
| 12 × 18 | 020570 |
For example, the 2-by-3-foot Kansas nylon flag is a heading-and-grommet configuration. Choosing a larger size is a separate decision, not an automatic upgrade for the same pole.
Check the heading before reusing your attachments
The current standard listings from 2 by 3 through 6 by 10 feet identify heading-and-grommet attachments. At 8 by 12 feet, the listing identifies rope and thimbles. The manufacturer's matching 8-by-12, 10-by-15 and 12-by-18-foot pages describe brass grommets and plated steel rope thimbles. Do not assume a large flag attaches in exactly the same way as a smaller two-grommet example.
Inspect the attachment types on the flag you are replacing, then compare them with the selected listing and your installed hardware. Record any required spacing or opening measurements before purchasing. A shared state design, material or manufacturer number does not establish that a particular snap, halyard or pole can accept the replacement.
Do not turn a replacement into an unplanned resize
A 6-by-10-foot flag and an 8-by-12-foot flag differ in both dimensions and listed attachment details. Before moving to the 8-by-12-foot rope-and-thimble configuration, confirm the intended size and attachment method against the pole or installation manufacturer's requirements. This guide does not assign a wind rating or approve a flag size for a particular pole.
Finish your replacement note with five details: Kansas design, both dimensions in feet, nylon material, exact item or listing, and required attachment arrangement. If any detail is uncertain, resolve that point before ordering instead of relying on a photograph of a different size.
