Beaded Retainer Ring Sizes: Pole Diameter, Assembly Length and Bead Size
A beaded retainer ring listing can give you a pole diameter, an assembly length and a bead diameter in the same description. Those measurements are related to one product, but they are not interchangeable. Reading an “11-inch ring” as an 11-inch-long assembly would lead to a very different purchase from the one the listing describes.
Start with the equipment identification and the measurement definitions. The FORTISVEX beaded retainer ring selection provides product-specific configurations. This guide explains how to compare them without turning a title, a photograph or a simple circumference calculation into an unsupported fit recommendation.
Identify the part before comparing sizes
Beaded retainer rings are used in flag arrangements to help keep the flag close to the pole. The store describes applications involving internal halyards and certain large multi-grommet flags. That description explains the general role; it does not establish that every ring is suitable for every arrangement.
This article concerns selecting an identified replacement ring. It does not select a counterweight, redesign an attachment system or tell you how to access a loaded assembly. If the existing equipment is damaged, inaccessible or unfamiliar, have the responsible installer identify the required component and replacement procedure.
For purchasing purposes, the most useful starting information is an existing part number, the pole identification and the documented arrangement. A photo can show context, but it may conceal the end fittings or make bead sizes difficult to judge. Avoid choosing a replacement solely because its color and overall shape look familiar.
Read the pole size separately from the assembly length
The silver beaded retainer ring 360199 is listed for an 11-inch flagpole butt diameter, with a 54-inch assembly length and 1-inch beads. The silver ring 360200 lists a 12-inch butt diameter, a 58-inch length and 1-inch beads.
In those examples, the leading size in the product name corresponds to the specified pole butt diameter. It does not describe the length of the assembly laid out for measurement, and it does not describe a bead. Copy the field labels along with the numbers so that another person can understand your comparison.
| Part | Specified pole butt diameter | Listed assembly length | Listed bead diameter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 360199 | 11 inches | 54 inches | 1 inch |
| 360200 | 12 inches | 58 inches | 1 inch |
Check the endpoints used to measure length
The product descriptions define length between the outer tips of the end thimbles and exclude the quick link from that measurement. This matters when comparing a listing with an old maintenance note. A note that includes the connecting link may be measuring a different span from the one used in the catalog.
When a qualified person provides a measurement, ask that the endpoints be stated explicitly. “Length between the outside thimble tips, link excluded” is more useful than “about four and a half feet.” Keep the measurement method alongside the value; do not discard it after copying the number.
If the existing assembly can only be seen as a closed loop around the pole, do not estimate its laid-out length from a photograph. The visible loop diameter, the cable path and the catalog measurement are different references. Identification from the equipment record is preferable to an improvised measurement of an inaccessible part.
Do not calculate a replacement from circumference alone
Multiplying a pole diameter by pi gives the circumference of an ideal circle at that diameter. It does not, by itself, specify a complete retainer assembly. It leaves unanswered questions about the actual arrangement, the listed bead configuration, the connections and the product's intended application.
The two listing examples are useful precisely because they supply their own size pairings. Use the specified pole diameter and assembly length together rather than replacing either field with a calculated guess. Do not infer a universal allowance from the difference between two models.
A tapered pole adds another reason to label measurements carefully. A diameter observed at an unspecified height should not be silently substituted for a documented butt diameter. If the record is incomplete, ask which pole measurement is needed for the intended replacement.
Compare the complete configuration
After the size fields match the documented requirement, check the bead description, end connections, color and included components. The ring category contains more than one configuration. A general category description should not override a specific model's listed bead size or length.
Do not assume that counting beads in a product image establishes the assembly length or that a visible connector is interchangeable with one already installed. This guide does not assign working-load limits or prescribe substitute connectors. Those questions require the applicable equipment information and a confirmed component match.
Prepare a precise replacement request
- Identify the pole and the existing ring part number, if available.
- Record the documented pole butt diameter separately from other measurements.
- Copy the selected ring's length and its measurement endpoints.
- Check the bead configuration and included connection hardware.
- State any missing identification instead of estimating it.
- Have the installation approach confirmed before ordering.
For example, a useful inquiry might say that the equipment record calls for part 360199 and ask whether the current listing is the correct replacement for that documented arrangement. An inquiry that says only “I need an 11-inch loop” leaves the meaning of the measurement unresolved.
Save the confirmed product link and the size definitions with the maintenance record. The benefit is not merely a cleaner order today. The next person can see why that particular ring was selected without having to reconstruct the decision from a photograph.
