Washington State Flags
History of the Washington State Flag
The current flag of Washington State was officially adopted in 1923. It features the state seal, which was designed in 1889, in the center of a dark green field. The seal depicts George Washington for whom the state is named, standing on the shore of the Puget Sound with the Olympic Mountains in the background. The seal is surrounded by a ring of gold bearing the state's name and the date that Washington was admitted to the Union, November 11, 1889.
