Your flag is supposed to be lit from dusk to dawn. Most solar flagpole lights make that a compromise — dim by midnight, dead by February, or bolted to a bracket halfway up the pole where the light hits the flag from below and leaves the top half dark.

This one sits on top. It threads onto the ornament spindle above the truck, so the light points down the flag, not up at it. The whole flag is lit evenly, all the way to the header, and there is no bracket on your pole and no shadow across the field of stars.

Will it fit my flagpole?

It is built for residential flagpoles from 15 to 25 feet and mounts on the ornament spindle on top of the truck. It works with every truck style we sell except the ST series, which has no spindle to thread onto. If your pole currently wears a ball ornament, this takes its place — unscrew the ball, thread the light on, done. No tools, no drilling, no wiring.

Not sure which truck you have? Look at the very top of the pole. If the ball unscrews from a threaded post, you are set.

How bright is 1,100 lumens, really?

Bright enough to read the stitching from the ground on a 25 foot pole. For comparison, a typical 60 watt household bulb puts out about 800 lumens, and most flagpole solar lights sit between 200 and 800. This one runs 200 individual 1 watt SMD 2835 LEDs — a lot of small emitters rather than a few large ones, which is what spreads the light across the whole flag instead of punching a hot spot into the middle of it.

Will it still be on at 4 a.m. in January?

That is the question that separates a good solar light from a landscape ornament, and the answer is in the battery. This unit carries two 3.2 volt LiFePO4 cells, 7,200 mAh together.

LiFePO4 matters more than the number. It is the same chemistry used in solar storage and electric vehicles, and it is chosen for two reasons: it holds up in cold weather where ordinary lithium-ion loses capacity, and it survives roughly 2,000 charge cycles against about 500 for a standard lithium-ion cell. On a light that charges and discharges every single day, that is the difference between years and one season.

Charging is handled by a 5 volt 6.2 watt monocrystalline panel — monocrystalline rather than the cheaper polycrystalline, which is what lets it keep charging on an overcast Idaho afternoon.

What about weather?

Rated IP65. The 6 means fully sealed against dust. The 5 means it withstands water jetted from any direction — wind-driven rain, sprinklers, snow melt. It lives 20 feet in the air with nothing above it, and it is built for that.

What you should know before you buy

Two honest notes, because we would rather you buy the right thing than send this one back.

It replaces your ornament. If you are attached to the ball or eagle currently on top of your pole, this takes its place. Some owners keep the ornament in the garage and put it back for daytime events.

It needs real sun. A pole under heavy tree cover will not charge fully, and no solar light on the market solves that. If your pole is shaded most of the day, a wired fixture will serve you better and we will tell you so.
