Nebraska State Flags
History of Nebraska State Flag
The Nebraska state flag was adopted in 1925. The design of the flag consists of a blue field with the state seal in the center, surrounded by a wreath of goldenrod, the state flower. The seal features a steamboat and a train, representing transportation and commerce, as well as a homesteader's cabin, a sheaf of wheat, and a blacksmith's anvil, representing agriculture and industry. The state motto, "Equality Before the Law," is inscribed on a banner below the seal. The flag's blue field represents the state's rivers, including the Missouri River, which forms the state's eastern border. The goldenrod represents the state's natural resources and prairies.
