Iowa State Flags
Iowa State Flag
The flag of the state of Iowa was adopted on March 29, 1921. It features a simple blue field with a bald eagle in the center, holding a ribbon in its beak that reads "OUR LIBERTIES WE PRIZE AND OUR RIGHTS WE WILL MAINTAIN." Above the eagle are thirteen white stars arranged in the pattern of the constellation Orion. The blue field represents the state's loyalty, and the eagle represents the United States. The stars represent the original thirteen states of the Union, of which Iowa was the 29th to join. The flag was designed by Dixie Cornell Gebhardt and was officially adopted by the Iowa General Assembly.
