History of the Pennsylvania State Flag

The Pennsylvania state flag is a rectangular blue field with a coat of arms in the center. The coat of arms features a shield with a ship, a plow, and three sheaves of wheat, symbolizing commerce, agriculture, and industry. Above the shield is an eagle, representing the state's sovereignty. The current design of the flag was adopted by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1907.

Before the current design, Pennsylvania had several different flags throughout its history. The first official flag of Pennsylvania was adopted in 1799 and featured a simple blue field with the state's coat of arms in the center. This flag was used until 1875, when a new design was adopted that featured the coat of arms surrounded by a wreath of laurel. This flag was used until 1907, when the current design was adopted.

In addition to the official state flag, Pennsylvania has also had several other flags that have been used to represent the state, including a military flag used by the Pennsylvania National Guard and a naval flag used by the Pennsylvania Navy.
