History of the Oregon State Flag

The current design of the Oregon state flag was adopted on July 5, 1925. The flag features a gold field with the state seal in the center, surrounded by 33 white stars representing Oregon as the 33rd state to join the United States. The seal features a beaver, which is the state animal, on top of a shield. The shield is surrounded by an eagle on the left and a pioneer on the right. Below the shield is the motto "She Flies With Her Own Wings." The beaver, eagle, and pioneer all symbolize the diverse natural and cultural history of Oregon. The motto "She Flies With Her Own Wings" is a reference to the state's motto, "Alis Volat Propriis," which means "She flies with her own wings" in Latin.
